The number of people receiving food stamps in Grand Forks County has increased 13 percent from last year, said Keith Berger, director of the county's social services department. Meanwhile, the amount of federal money going to people in the county in SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program - the new name for food stamp program as of Oct. 1 - has increased 29 percent from a year ago.
